2025 Frequently asked questions about Gorilla safaris : Almost half of the number of tourists that visit Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo every year come to these countries to see the mighty huge, large apes, the mountain gorillas that are found in Bwindi National Park, Mgahinga National Park in Uganda, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Virunga National Park in the Democratic republic of Congo.
Because of the number of people that folk these countries, for the mountain gorilla activities, many people have questions about this activity and in this article, we want to answer some of the questions we have received from interested trekkers this year. We assume that the answers to these questions will be helpful for you who is also planning for a mountain gorilla safari in the near future.

- Is mountain gorilla trekking still done in 2025?
Absolutely, Mountain gorilla trekking is still being done in 2025 in all parks mentioned above. The activity is done almost on a daily.
- How do we book for mountain gorilla trekking in 2025?
The mountain gorilla trekking experience booking is still the same as always. You can book directly through the country’s wildlife authority or through a reputable tour operator.
- How many days is mountain gorilla trekking safari?
Well, the activity alone of ascending into the forest and looking for the gorillas, takes between 5 to 8 hours, depending on where you are trekking. So we can say the activity takes a day. But the safari will take as long as you want it to go. From 2 days to as many days the choice is yours.
Other activities you can do on a mountain gorilla safari, include:- community tours, hiking, mountain biking, nature walks, bird watching and many more. All these activities can take up the time of your safari.
- How much will I spend on a mountain gorilla safari?
This is a hard one to answer because, what you spend on a mountain gorilla safari, will depend on your itinerary, activities you are going to do, how many days; you want to be on safari, the type of accommodation and service you want, if you are travelling by air or road, if you are doing a solo trip or not etc.
So, we can’t zero down on the cost of the entire safari, but what we conclude on is the prices of the trekking permits for each country. In Uganda the trekking permits cost 700 USD, In Rwanda 1000 USD and in the Democratic republic of Congo 400 USD.

- What is the cancellation policy for mountain gorilla trekking?
The cancellation policy for mountain gorilla trekking is dependent on a country, so for that kindly consult with your tour operator.
- Is mountain gorilla trekking still difficult even in 2025?
Well difficult is relative in this case, but yes the trek to and from the gorillas in the mountainous forest is not to be taken lightly, so you show prepare for it both physically and mentally. That said, Uganda’s Buhoma sector in Bwindi National Park and Rwanda have quite friendly terrains that can be trekked by anyone.
- Can I go for the trek alone?
Absolutely not, mountain gorilla trekking is not an exclusive activity. Even when you pay for a solo trip you will need a trekking guide and ranger with you. Plus, the reason people trek in groups is for safety sometimes. The gorillas will not be threatened by a bigger group like they would one person.
- Are we allowed to get close to the gorillas?
You can only be within 7 meters of the gorillas when you meet the gorillas and can only be in their company for one hour.
- Are we transported to the starting point of the trek?
This you can arrange with tour operator, especially if your accommodation is not within the park.
- Do we get certificates of trekking after the experience?
Yes you do, get a certificate of trekking.
