Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Gorillas and Wildlife Safari from Kigali

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

On arrival in Kigali, you will be met by our company driver-guide who will welcome you and after briefing you about the safari, go for a Kigali City visiting some of the monumental sites in the city including the Kigali Genocide Memorial City, Kimironko Market among others.

After the game drive, you will proceed to transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with the border crossing at Cyanika/Katuna Border. The drive is approximately 4 hours from Kigali and along the way you will be treated to scenic views of the rolling hills and vast tea plantation. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Wake up early, have breakfast then meet your guide and head to the park headquarters with your packed lunch box. Join other visitors at the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking, in groups of 8 people you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek, head into the forest looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2-6 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. You will be allowed to spend only one hour in their presence as they go on about their life. After an hour has elapsed, trek back to the headquarters with a lunch stopover in the jungle. At the headquarters you will receive your gorilla trekking certificates. Return to your lodge for relaxation, spend the rest of the day at leisure, have dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Batwa cultural experience, Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Night Game Drive

After breakfast, you will have check out of your lodge and proceed for a Batwa Cultural Experience. The Batwa are an indigenous people who dwelt in the forest and co-existed with the animals and plants. They were hunters and gatherers who got evicted from the forest. During your visit, you will be entertained by local dances and drama, interact with the medicine man among others.

After the enriching experience, you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park with en-route lunch. You will enter the park through the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, this region is known for the tree climbing lions. Enjoy a game drive as you proceed to your accommodation. Check in and relax at the lodge.

You will then proceed a night game drive in the park where you will have a great opportunity to see a number of nocturnal animals like leopards, lions, buffaloes and elephants among others. Return to the lodge, have dinner and then go for an overnight stay.

Day 4: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Launch Cruise

Early in the morning, have a cup of coffee and then head out before sunrise for an early morning game drive around the vast savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will see many animals like buffaloes, kobs, elephants and many others. Return to the lodge for your breakfast and spend the rest of the morning at leisure. Have lunch at the lodge and thereafter head out for an afternoon launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel that joins Lake Edward to Lake Albert. This launch cruise is another opportunity for you to see more wildlife and birds such as hippos, crocodiles and herons among others. The launch cruise takes approximately 2 hours.
