5 Days Mount Elgon Hike : This 5 days Uganda Safari hike let’s you explore Mount Elgon National Park where you will hike to Wagagai peak which is the highest peak of this mountain.

Day 1: Transfer to Mount Elgon National Park—Sipi Falls

Depending on your location in Kampala/Entebbe, depart Kampala at around 7 am and transfer to Mount Elgon, which is located in eastern Uganda on the Ugandan and Kenyan border. The mountain encompasses the largest surface area of all the extinct volcanoes in the world. Mt. Elgon boasts the most magnificent waterfalls, eye-catching caves, cliffs, and gorges in the entire country. Have a stopover in Mbale town for lunch. Upon arrival, you will take a walk to and around the Sipi Falls, which are regarded as Uganda’s romantic falls. Return, have dinner, and overnight at Sipi Valley Lodge for budget

Day 2: Hike to Piswa Cave Camp through Budadiri (2,850 meters high).

Wake up to a delicious breakfast and the morning views of the landscape. Thereafter, transfer to the Budadiri Exploration Center, where you will start the hike. You will be briefed about the hike and also get a porter for yourself. Ensure you have your backpack containing what you will need to use during the hike, including food, water, and camping gear. You will drive to Kapkwata Head Trail, which starts at 2,190 meters. The trail is somewhat steep, winding through montane rainforest and bamboo forest until it reaches the lunar landscape, where you will arrive at Piswa Camp in the late afternoon. The hike takes approximately 7 to 8 hours to reach the camp, where you will have your dinner and spend the night.

Day 3: Continue to Hunters Cave Camp

Wake up to continue the hike, first have your breakfast at the campsite, and then resume the hike through the beautiful columns of rare species like Giant Lobelia and wild everlasting flowers. During your journey, you will stop at the hot springs and then reach the Hunter’s Cave, located at approximately 3,850 meters on the rim of the Caldera. Overnight at Hunters Cave Camp

Day 4: Descend from Wagagai Peak—Mude Cave Camp

After a cup of tea, you will ascend to the top of the Caldera-Wagai peak, which sits at 4,320 meters high on Mount Elgon. The journey from the forest to the summit base camp, situated at an elevation of approximately 810 meters, takes approximately 4 to 5 hours. Once you reach the peak, unwind and capture stunning views of the Caldera. Then, begin your descent to your overnight camp, Mude Cave Camp, located at an elevation of about 4,200 meters, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery for your photos. Day 5: Descend to Budadiri/Kampala

After a cup of tea, you will descend from the top through Jackson’s summit, Wagagai Peak, which sits at 4,320 meters high on Mount Elgon. You will start descending back to Budadiri, where you will meet your safari driver to connect back to Kampala with an en route lunch. Proceed to Kampala/Entebbe to be dropped off at a location you advise or be dropped at Entebbe airport for your evening flight back home.
