6 Days Best of Primates Safari

This 6 Days Best of Primates Safari is designed to suit travellers interested in exploring Uganda’s destinations and have encounters with primates in their natural habitats. On this Uganda Tour, you will encounter the endangered mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, chimpanzees in both Kibale National Park and Kyambura Gorge, as well as wildlife viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Other primates one will see are black and white colobus monkeys, blue and red monkeys, baboons among others.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park –Launch Cruise on Kazinga Channel

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed our guide and after a short briefing, proceed for a transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to over 1000 mammals, 600 different bird species and primates including chimpanzees. The drive is approximately 6 hours from Kampala. Along the way you will stop at the Equator in Kayabwe for a polar water experiment and photography. You will arrive in time for lunch, later in the afternoon go for a launch cruise on Kazinga Channel, a waterway linking Lake Edward to Lake George.

This launch cruise will reward you with various water animals including hippos, Nile crocodiles and other animals like buffaloes and elephants as they come to drink water on the shores. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Game Drive-Chimpanzee Tracking in Kyambura Gorge

Have an early cup of coffee or tea at the lodge, head out for a game drive in the Kasenyi Plains and Queens Mile. The trails reward you with abundant wildlife sighting and given the game drive is early in the morning, you will be able to encounter the early risers and the nocturnal returning such as lions, hyenas, jackals, elephants, buffaloes among so many others. After the game drive, return to the lodge for breakfast.

Spend the rest of the morning at rest and after lunch, you will transfer to Kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee trekking. Also, you will get to see other primates while chimpanzee tracking such as red tailed monkeys, colobus monkeys, among so many others including bird species, butterflies and plant life. After, return to the lodge, have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast at the lodge, you will transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through the Ishasha Sector. Keep an eye out for the famous tree climbing lions as they dangle on the treetops. You will also get to see other wildlife such as elephants, antelopes and a number of primates en-route to Bwindi. The drive is approximately 4 hours, arrive in the park in time for lunch at your lodge, you can choose to spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing or go for a community visit and get to engage with the locals and learn of their way of life.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Wake up early for breakfast, head to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking, in group of 8 people you will be assigned a gorilla family to trek and head into the forest looking for the gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours or more depending on their location that day, on locating the gorilla family you will be allowed to spend one hour in their presence watching them as they go on with their life in the forest.

You will be allowed to spend only 1 hour in the presence of the gorillas watching them go on with their life in the forest as they play, feed and groom each other. After an one has elapsed, you will leave the gorillas and trek back, with a lunch stopover in the forest. Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park, Bigodi wetland visit

After breakfast, you will checkout of the lodge and drive to Kibale Forest National Park, arrive in time for lunch at your lodge. In the afternoon, you will go for a Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary visit, which will reward you with various bird species like the African Pitta, the great blue turaco among others and some of the primates such as chimpanzees, black and white colobus, and baboons among others. After, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Tracking and Departure

After breakfast, you will meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking. The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours or more depending on the movement of the chimpanzees and where they spent their previous night, as you trek through the forest you will also see other primates like baboons, red-tailed monkeys among others.

After the experience, depart for a road drive to Entebbe with stopover for lunch. Your guide will drop you off at the airport for your flight back home.
