7 Days Rwanda Safari Tour

7 Days Rwanda Safari Tour

Day 0: Arrive in Kigali.

Following your arrival in Kigali, transfer to the designated hotel for check-in while waiting for your test results to return before you start your trip.

Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park—Kigali city tour

You will be picked up at your hotel in Kigali by our company representative/driver guide. Connect to the Kigali city tour, visiting the Kimironko market and the Kigali Genocide Memorial grounds. After lunch, we will transfer you to your hotel in Volcanoes National Park, where you will arrive in Ruhengeri for dinner and an overnight stay at either Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge or Da Vinic Gorilla Lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Volcanoes National Park—community tour

Wake up to an early morning breakfast and report to the park headquarters for a briefing and allocation of gorilla trekking groups. Later, you will head into the cold and misty forested slopes of Virunga National Park for your gorilla trek. Depending on the gorillas’ movements, the trek can last anywhere from 2 to 6 hours. Once you locate them, you will have an hour to observe and take photos before leaving the forest.

Meet your driver or guide and transfer back to the lodge. In the afternoon, proceed to Iby’iwachu Cultural Tour to immerse yourself in the Banyarwanda culture. Dinner and overnight stay at lodges as above

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park; visit Isumo waterfalls (6-7 hours’ drive).

Wake up to a tasty breakfast, check out of your hotel and embark on your transfer to Nyungwe Forest National through the rolling hills of Rwanda. Upon arrival, connect to your lodge for lunch; later afternoon, connect for a nature walk in the forest to Nyungwe’s biggest waterfalls on the Isumo trail. This is one of the most refreshing experiences, offering views of various birds and some primates. The walk is approximately 4 hours of walking up and down the Nyungwe forest. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe Top Hill View Hotel/Emeraude Kivu Resort for mid-range/Gisakura Visitor Centre for budget option.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking and afternoon canopy walk

Enjoy breakfast and go for a briefing before entering the forest. Search for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe Forest. The chimpanzees are easy to spot as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Tracking chimpanzees typically takes 3-5 hours, after which you can spend an hour with them before returning to your lodge for lunch.

Canopy walk

After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk, a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s-eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. Before nightfall, you will return to the hotel for dinner as above.

Day 5: Transfer to Akagera National Park (7-8 hours’ drive)

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and proceed to Akagera National Park, stopping for lunch en route in Kigali. Once you arrive at the park, proceed to your lodge for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay at either the budget-friendly Akagera Transit Lodge or the mid-range Akagera Game Lodge.

Day 6: Early morning game drive, Ihema boat trip

Get up early and embark on a game drive, eagerly anticipating the sight of various animals awakening early for grazing and predators seeking their prey. Akagera National Park has the Big 5 game and if you are lucky, you will spot all the animals. Expect to see animals like the elephants, giraffes, rhinos, lions, buffaloes, leopards, waterbucks, kobs, and oribi, just to mention a few.

After the game drive, drive back for lunch at the lodge, then connect for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema. This boat cruise will reward you with animals like hippos, crocodiles, and water birds. Some animals, like the elephants and buffaloes, can be spotted at the watershores drinking from the park. Thereafter, drive back to the lodge with en-route game viewing. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above.

Day 7: Transfer to Kigali

Enjoy breakfast at leisure and transfer back to Kigali.
