Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to your hotel in Kigali

Once you arrive at Kanombe International Airport or are picked up from your hotel, our guide will greet you and transfer you to Kigali city. Depending on your arrival time, you will embark on a short city tour and visit the genocide memorial site. Dinner and overnight stay at Step Town Motel for budget/Kigali Serena hotel for luxury/Des Mille Collins Hotel for mid-range

Day 2, Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park—Canopy walk

After a morning breakfast, you will transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. En route, you will pass through wonderful and magnificent hills and cultivated countryside. Have a stopover at the royal King’s Palace in Nyanza for a cultural description of the history of Rwanda. Proceed and reach Butare town, where you will have lunch. After lunch, you will visit the Rwanda National Museum for a tour around the site.

Proceed and reach the park at a good time for the canopy walk. Join a walking trail that leads to the Canopy Walk, a swing bridge spanning 50 meters and suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s-eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. Before nightfall, you will return to the lodge for dinner as above. Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

You will have an early morning breakfast, then proceed to the park headquarters in Nyungwe Forest for a briefing before embarking on your chimpanzee tracking adventure. However, it is advisable to organize a packed lunch and plenty of water prior to this expedition since it can sometimes last over six hours. In the forest, you will not only see chimpanzees but also a variety of animals and birds like the Rwenzori Turacco, black and white casqued hornbills, and colobus monkeys—sometimes as many as 400 in a group. Day 4: Waterfall nature walk

After breakfast, embark on a forest walk to the waterfalls, where you will encounter various birds and primates. Reaching the waterfalls is a relaxing and refreshing experience, offering great views of the forested mountain. Return from the hike and drive back to the lodge for lunch. Later afternoon, drive back to Kigali. Have dinner and spend the night at either the Step Town Motel, which is a budget option, the Kigali Serena hotel, which is a luxury option, or the Des Mille Collins Hotel, which is a mid-range option.

Day 5: Transfer to Akagera National Park

After breakfast, you will connect to Akagera National Park. It’s a 2-3 hour’s drive. Arrive at a good time for lunch at your booked lunch. Check-in, have lunch, and spend your afternoon on a game drive in the south of Lake Ihema. Keep an eye out for various wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, and antelopes. Dinner and overnight at Ruzizi Tented Camp for the luxury option; Akagera Game Lodge for the mid-range option; and Dereva Hotel for the luxury option.

Day 6: Morning game drive and a boat ride on Lake Ihema

The seventh day of this Rwanda Safari highlights more activities in Akagera National Park. Early in the morning, after breakfast, you will go for a Northern Circuit game drive to search for animals that you may have missed out on in the previous game drive. It was not a guarantee that all the animals could be seen in the evening game drive.

There are some that are early risers and can only be seen in the morning. Return back to the lodge for a small meal as you wait for lunAfter lunch, you will embark on a boat ride on Lake Ihema, providing you with breathtaking views of the surrounding areas, hills, and swamps. s. Expect to shippospos, crocodiles, and more bird species. Return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at the lodge as above.

Day 7: Transfer back to Kigali city

Early morning, after breakfast, enjoy yet another game drive before you drive out of the park to return to Kigali city. The city tour will depend on your time available before departure. Your safari guide will either transfer you to the airport for your flight back home or your hotel in Kigali, as you will advise.
