Chimpanzees in Queen Elizabeth National Park are situated in the Kyambura Gorge a beautiful point of the park also known as the valley of apes. Queen Elizabeth National Park is the second largest known for tree climbing lions, the 1978 square kilometer Park stretches through an open savannah and the unique gorge having a tropical forest. The park is place at an altitude between 910-1390m above sea level, it was gazette in 1952 as a way of protecting the species that lie within the protected eco-system. It was initially known as the Kabalega National Park and after renamed to the Queen Elizabeth National Park following the visit of Queen Elizabeth the second of England. It is a popular have of birds of the 1000 species in Uganda 600 of which have been recorded here. The chimpanzees have lived in the forest like forever. Over the years chimpanzee have been seen in the Kyambura and some move to the extending forests of Maramagambo and Kalinzu, the forest canopies are umbrella to the chimpanzees, it is one of the paths that can connect you to the savannah plains which is home to many predators like lions, leopards, and hyenas. Chimpanzee tracking permits can be purchased directly from the Uganda wildlife authority or ta the Mweya Safari Lodge.

Other park activities include game drives in the national park through the well distributed game tracks of the conservation area, expect to spot a number of animals present in the park example species include the Lions, warthogs, Jackson hartebeests, African buffaloes, to mention a few. Boat cruise along the Kazinga channel takes you to explore the region which is known for the highest concentration of hippos in the world.
