Horseback Riding in Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park is located in the western part of Uganda along the Masaka – Mbarara highway, the conservation area stands to be the smallest savannah national park in Uganda, underlined by Precambrian rocks above which is a growing beautiful savannah vegetation cover and Rubanga forest, it is one of the best places to see many zebras in Uganda, in the past years, the national park has had a bad history of animal elimination in the park due to tsetse fly infection in the park, it is one of the most highly encroached parks facing so much pressure from the community.
Lake Mburo National Park is comprised of a savannah vegetation cover, dotted with beautiful shrubs, bushes and thorns, most of the park area is covered in water bodies which come together to form a large wetland region, the total land area of the conservation area is 370square kilometers, the many wildlife species of the park some of which include zebras, warthogs, topi, elands, Uganda kobs, olive baboons, hippos, Nile crocodiles, hyenas, buffaloes, there are over 300 species of birds present in the national park example species include African fish eagles, plovers, African fin foots, papyrus yellow warbler, shoebill stock, to mention a few.
The national park is the only one in Uganda where the activity is done. It is an exceptional and adventurous activity to do, the horseback riding is an initiative of the Mihingo Lodge the luxury facility is situated within the national park overlooking the savannah grasslands and hills, the lodge has been operating the horse service for a long time since the 2008, it is carried out for both in-house guests and visitors staying at the other lodges, the lodge boasts a number of horses available for visits, this is carried out in the early morning time, each of the horses carries a maximum of 100 kilograms, the session begins at 10:00am , animals tend to be comfortable around others and hence you will have a chance to get closer to view wildlife, through the game tracks of the conservation area, beginners are advised to take a shorter drive, while experts can go in for longer rides in the park it can take 2-4 hours for long distance riders.
Horseback Riding in Lake Mburo National Park can be done overnight in search of nocturnal species of the park through the guidance of the Uganda Wildlife game ranger, when considering doing the activity, it is important to wear long sleeved shirts and trousers, hiking boots, helmets and hand gloves for riding, the best time to do the activity is during the dry season between June – Early September, and December to February, it is such an amazing thing to do while in the park, other activities conducted here include game drives in the park done in the morning, mid-morning and evening times, it is one if the best places of Uganda to do night game drives, boat cruise along the Lake Mburo, expect to see quite a number of water animals and those that come to graze along the banks of the Lake.
